I am Barbara. Nice to see you here.
My approach to yoga comes from a mindfulness and feeling point and it’s not so much about the perfect posture. Of course it is important to pay attention the proper asana alignment, in order not to injure yourself. In the Western world where everything needs to go faster and we need to be available almost around the clock it is difficult to step outside and to take a breather. This constantly being on is causing innumerable health issues, especially on a mental level. We have forgotten to pay attention to what our body tells us. Way before we feel unease and pain. Connecting with your inner core is essential to live a healthy life and accessing your full potential, not just on a physical but very much on a mental level. My motto is: Slow is the new fast. And with that in mind I am leading not only my yoga classes and mindfulness coaching sessions, but that is how I live life.
«Learn to let go. That is the key to happiness.» (Buddha)
Through mindful and conscious movements you are able to quiet the mind and access your soul force. Your breath is a huge part in helping you to go within and to shut off the endless thoughts. You learn to be in the here and now, which is key to fully immerse in the asana practice. Once your mind is quiet you are able to really feel what is happening in your body.
All this sounds very serious, but my sessions leave a lot of room for playtime. Yoga and movement should be fun and be approached with a childlike point of view. I draw a lot from my own journey and am very open to share my own struggles on this path to a freer and fuller life. A life without ego and self-sabotage.
I started with yoga in 2003 because I realised that I needed to find a way to become calmer and to find serenity. In the summer of 2009 when my mom was diagnosed with cancer, which led to my dad’s suicide in September 2010 and my mom’s passing 14 months later my daily morning practice had become my lifeline and was what kept me sane and really saved my life. In 2016 – on a sabbatical trip in South America – I realised that I was so passionate about it that I decided to change career – had been in Marketing Communications for 25 years, with 17 years as an agency owner – and do a Yoga Teacher Training. Today I have done 500 hours of training, finished the extensive Slings Myofascial Training© in 2020 and have become a Thai Yoga Massage Therapist in 2019.
«My biggest loss has given me the greatest gift.»
My heart opens up wide when I can support my fellow human beings and when my journey and my learnings on this rocky path called life has a positive effect on others. I live and teach in Switzerland but offer online sessions via Zoom.
Since the fall of 2017, I have been teaching group classes and private lessons, leading workshops for a healthy and balanced life and accompanying people in Mindfulness Coaching on their path to more peace, serenity and self-love. I also offer Thai Yoga Massage since spring 2019. All these encounters are incredibly rewarding to me.
For several years I had a vision of creating a place of coming together and open exchange. The vision of a community center has finally come true with the opening of the new yoga space in September 2020. Even as a teenager, I always loved bringing people together. During my time as an communications agency owner, I organized a monthly sushi networking evening at my home. While preparing sushi and eating together, people from a wide variety of professions got to know each other better, and in some cases new business connections were established. On all of my travels, I have met countless people and precious friendships have emerged that still exist today and even stand strong over long distances. My gift for approaching people of all kinds and origins and being able to quickly establish closeness has always enriched my life. I am very happy to be able to offer countless social events as swell as a women’s circle soon. Burt also the men won’t be left out, as a men’s circle will take place. As soon as these happenings are more specific, you will learn more about them here. Or be the first to know and sign up for the newsletter.
